Hokusai – the most exciting workshop

At the drawing from history art workshop by The Renaissance workshop, we explored the works of Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849), a Japanese master artist and printmaker known for his innovative compositions and exceptional drawing techniques. The host kept us hooked with fascinating info as we drew and ruminated over Hokusai’s techniques.

This one is titled ‘Lesser Cuckoo and Azaleas’
This is called the ‘Hanging cloud bridge’ and the original by Hokusai is seen right at the beginning of this blog post.

Loved this session… Hokusai drew his sketches with ink, which implies he was pretty sure about his art, no hovering over edges or multiple lines over the other to get the right image. His strokes were deliberate and he created with abandon, and that’s what we were encouraged to do at this workshop to explore new ways of creativity.
