Mount Saleve, fondue and a birthday cake…

So my birthday was on the next day after our return from Paris and we decided to visit Mount Saleve in France, which is about twenty minutes from Geneva… it borders Geneva and looms over the city protectively.
Once you get down at the bus stop, you have to walk a few minutes to reach the cable cars that take you right to the top of Mount Saleve. In the picture, you’ll see the cable car going up the mountain with me and my sister inside.
This is the view as you go up the mountain…
At the top of Mount Saleve….
You can see Geneva stretched out below you, can you make out the water fountain in the distance… the Jet d’Eau.
A sweeping view of Geneva …

 It’s just beautiful up there…
 Trees and sunlight glinting….
 So quiet and peaceful…
This is a common sight in Europe, jet planes leaving traces in the clear blue sky…
 Ideal place for picnics…
So after walking around and taking everything in, we took the cable car down… this was taken on the way down, even the glass on the cable car is spotlessly clean.
Back in France, just walking around… seeing pretty things.
 Pretty lamp posts…
 Flowers and greenery everywhere…
How pretty… many houses have these window boxes overflowing with flowers.
The cutest little post office ever!
 More boxes overflowing with flowers…
Took the bus back to Geneva and got down at church to attend the evening mass. We were early so decided to go to the Starbucks place nearby and while away the time till mass. Ordered a cheesecake…
 And a brownie…
(picture taken from here)
Then it was time for mass, so went to the Notre Dame cathedral in Geneva.
Inside the cathedral, where we attended French Mass…
 A painting of the Madonna….
How cute are these chairs inside the church…
 A small pray area…
After mass we walked around for a while…
 Pretty flowers on the bridge…

We then decided to have fondue for dinner, here is the pot of melted cheese… the meats, pickles and potatoes have to be dipped in this pot, the cheese has to coat them well and then you eat them. It is quite nice but not something you can have often, makes for a nice winter get together… people sitting around and dipping food in warm melted cheese…
The plate of pickles, pearl onions and cured ham.
Ham pieces and the pot of cheese…
 Some macaroni…
 Fish, potatoes and vegetables…
The birthday cake… my sister bought the pretty candles.
A beautiful day in so many ways…
