During the last weekend in August we decided to visit Annecy, since every last Saturday of the month they have this huge flea market in the old town of Annecy. So we wake up late on Saturday, pack our things, have some
breakfast of grapes and berries…
with yogurt and then we’re ready to hit the road.
Annecy is only 45 minutes from Geneva. The plan was to leisurely stroll around, take in the sights of Annecy and then drive to Chamonix to spend the night. But we left home quite late, around 12:30 pm and while walking to the old town, I see this charming book store… couldn’t go in to explore, strapped for time.
And this is Annecy, located in the north of the French Alps.
Annecy is really beautiful… small, charming and delightful, no wonder it is nicknamed ‘Pearl of the French Alps’. Annecy is also known as ‘Venice of the Alps’ or the ‘Venice of Savoy’ but the truth is Venice can’t come close to the beauty of this pristine alpine town.
The old town
Came across this painting of people from home… how beautiful.
Chanced upon these beautiful steps, and I fell in love with them… they seemed endless.
This cute little house near the steps…
This four scoop ice cream of hazelnut, chocolate, coffee and cappuccino flavour was over in no time… the four of us trying to remain civilized (and not hog it) as we passed it around after taking a few heavenly bites.
The canal in Annecy….
Hair pins at the flea market… I did not take a lot of pictures this time, as I had taken a whole lot the last time I was here in October 2013, and it was pretty much the same.
We then drove to Chamonix which is about an hour and a half from Annecy… and this was our room.
The bathroom…
With an incredible view…
Went out to have dinner at this beautiful place… Aiguille Du Midi
nestled at the foot of the mountains… those white things are the glaciers on the mountain.
We had some white wine…
I don’t remember what this is, tasted fishy…
Starters of cold cuts…
Some meat dish…
I think this is some Salmon dish…
Fondue with cold cuts, gherkins and salad… the cheese was bubbling away.
We were having a nice slow dinner, ’cause the cold mountain air felt good.. so took out my notebook to draw.
The dessert buffet…
One last look at this pretty restaurant, before we drove to the town centre in Chamonix and just walked around…
One last look at the mountains before walking into our hotel room, and crashing for the night.

Here’s what we picked up at the flea market in Annecy for a few euros…
