So after getting lost and not finding Pèrouge the first time, we decided to try again a few days later. We catch the train from Geneva to Lyon, and then another train from Lyon to Meximieux and in half an hour we reach Meximieux.
And Perouge is about fifteen minutes walk from the train station…
So you follow the signs…
Mid way through, for a second, I thought I was walking back home in some narrow alley… after seeing this banana tree and the tiled roof.
That’s my brother…
Imposing gate on the way…
And after climbing uphill, you come to the medieval city of Pèrouge…
The entrance stone…
It was not that crowded, which was great…
I think tourists don’t come here… it’s kinda difficult to find this place…
A nice place…
Deserted streets… apparently the movie The Three Musketeers, was shot here, in Pèrouge.
Some more doors or gates… whatever you prefer to call them.
Nice place…
Broken walls still standing…
Some plaque…
Design from the stained glass windows on the floor of the church…
These are the windows casting the lights… what are they supposed to depict?
Holy water fonts…
The church in Pèrouge…
Exterior of the church…
Another arched pathway…
Pretty gate…
Check out these lace curtains…
Grapes hanging from the vines…
An interesting key hole…
A plaque…
We came across a shop selling medieval clothing, we tried them on…
So after walking around Pèrouge, we decided to head back to Lyon…
On the way spotted a few horses, and when I stopped to take a picture of this fellow…
He came trotting towards us…. he ate biscuits out of our hands. He was extremely friendly, we didn’t want to leave his side, such graceful creatures…
On the way to the station saw a carved wooden statue of the holy family in a church… and I was wonder struck. Look at the folds on their dress, amazing piece of work….
The medieval city of Pèrouge is interesting, but not as enticing as Yvoire was… Yvoire is all flowers and sunshine and sparkling water. Pèrouge sits atop a hill, and it’s quite deserted, might get spooky when the sun goes down… there isn’t much to see either. We enjoyed our trip though, the highlight of it was meeting the beautiful horse… let me see if I can find videos of it…
What a lovely place this is. These are the places where history was made. Ah, it is fun to imagine. What marvelous photographs.
Yeah, this place is really steeped in history…
