I don’t know why his poems fascinate me one moment and the next moment I am like, really Tyler… that’s not healthy. I mean the flow of words, the way he uses them; ‘walk slowly across the earth of you‘ and ‘slivers of you‘… see what I mean. Who thinks like that, who comes up with sentences like that… I love that aspect of his poetry. The way he effortlessly weaves words into sentences that you’ve never thought could be formed like the way Tyler forms them. I love the language in them, the way these phrases make me stop and want to go over them again. But when I get to the meaning behind them, I am a little incredulous by the way he feels… he gets lost in his feelings, and it goes beyond my understanding. I don’t know how you can feel to such extremes, I mean, I know it is possible.. but it’s not healthy for your sanity. Obviously he’s a poet and that’s what they do, go to the extremes in their poems… but in real life, logic has to always prevail. You can’t live and breathe and exist for only one person, that is absurd. That’s why I like his travel poems or his inspirational poems more than the romantic poems he keeps churning out. That aside, some of his poems about passion are pretty nice… too cute for words. I wish I had known about him when Nam was getting married, I would have definitely invited him to be her wedding photographer… he seems like a pretty cool guy to hang out with.
Anyway, I think this poem above is like Annie’s Song by John Denver. The poet is lost in her, she fills up his senses… he cannot see beyond her. He is made up of pieces of her, and she doesn’t seem to realise it. So as he is roaming in her world, something about her pierces him and this makes him happy cause she finally sees that he is totally into her.
I love what you've written about this poet. You've taken the way this poetry makes us feel, and put it into words we don't know how to express. Beautifully written.
looks/reads like the aftermath of a painful break-up to me…picking out the slivers…
